
MATT FORD
Hailed as one of the UK's finest big band and swing vocalists, Matt Ford has built an acclaimed career at the forefront of Swing Era and orchestral music. Renowned for his warm tone, effortless phrasing, and timeless interpretations of the Great American Songbook, Matt has performed with many of the World's leading orchestras, conductors and big bands.
After 5 years with the multi award-winning Syd Lawrence Orchestra, Matt was voted Best UK Male Big Band Vocalist, and nominated alongside Jamie Cullum in the inaugural Ronnie Scott's Jazz Awards.
Since then, he has become one of the most in-demand vocal soloists in the country, regularly appearing with the BBC Concert Orchestra, RTE Concert Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Halle Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Irish National Symphony Orchestra.
Matt's long association with conductor John Wilson has seen him feature prominently with the John Wilson Orchestra, including acclaimed BBC Proms performances 'Hollywood Rhapsody, 'The Warner Brothers Story', and 'Hooray for Hollywood', broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Four to record audiences. His Proms appearances have earned him praise for bringing the golden age of film music vividly to life, with critics highlighting his "charisma and vintage vocal sheen".
His concert career has taken him to some of the most prestigious venues in the UK and beyond, including the Royal Albert Hall (on more than 25 occasions), Barbican, Royal Festival Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Symphony Hall, and the Berliner Philharmonie. Internationally, he has performed with L'Orchestra National de Lyon, hosted his own St Valentine's Day from Paris broadcast for Radio France, and performed with the OPAS Symphony Orchestra in the US. His engagements with the RTE Concert Orchestra and Irish National Symphony Orchestra are a regular feature on both RTE 1 and Lyric FM across Ireland.
Matt's extensive broadcast and recording credits include Friday Night is Music Night (BBC Radio 2), BBC Big Band Special, Sunday Night is Music Night, and Sky Arts' 100 Years of Big Bands. His studio work includes EMI Classics' That's Entertainment - celebrating MGM musicals - and the live-recorded album From Abbey Road, which debuted as No.1 on the iTunes Jazz chart and which gave Matt his first UK Official Top 40 Singles Chart hit. Other notable releases include The Art of Intimate Song, Live & Swinging, and Memories of Christmas, recorded with National Brass Band Champions, Foden's.
His versatility as a performer is reflected in the range of concert projects he headlines, from Simply Sinatra and A Celebration of Bond, to 100 Years of Big Bands and Songs From The Musicals. Recent highlights include performances with Opera North, the Scottish Symphony Orchestra, The BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the London Concert Orchestra, and Mike Lovatt's Brass Pack, as well as festival appearances at Aldeburgh, Cheltenham, Harrogate and Graffenegg.
A frequent guest for both radio and television, Matt has appeared on The One Show, The Alan Titchmarsh Show, Sound of Song (BBC Four), and countless concert broadcasts throughout the UK and Europe. His artistry has also led to invitations to perform for members of both domestic and international royalty.
In recent years, Matt has continued to expand his international profile, with performances in Dublin, Bergen, Lyon, Berlin, and across the US. He remains a favourite with orchestras and audiences alike for his seemingly effortless swing, warmth and deep respect for the great vocalists of the past - from Sinatra to Bennett - all delivered with a contemporary polish uniquely his own.
